A magnitude 6.7 earthquake was recorded off the coast of the Philippines on Tuesday, January 9, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported, although no casualties or damage were initially reported.

The earthquake occurred at a depth of 70 kilometers, about 100 kilometers southeast of Sarangani province, the USGS added.

The earthquake did not trigger a tsunami warning, according to the U.S. Tsunami Warning System and the Philippine Seismological Survey.
