Hackers attacked a Polish university. It does not work, among others: mail and issuing room keys

The University of Zielona Góra was attacked by hackers over the weekend. As a result, it does not work, among others: university post office and lecture hall key collection system.

A hacker attack on a Polish university occurred on the night from Friday to Saturday (January 5 to 6). On Sunday, the Computer Center of the University of Zielona Góra publicly informed about the problem.

As the unit writes, the university’s systems were the target of a deliberate attack by hackers and some services – at least for some time – were blocked. Currently, all services maintained in the virtualization environment at the Computer Center of the University of Zielona Góra are not working. These are: UZ post office, Central Print system, key collection system from the depository (collecting keys to lecture halls), university library systems. UZ notes that it plans to restore the operation of academic mail on January 10. For other systems, such dates have not been disclosed.

As a result of a targeted hacker attack on the Data Processing Center of the University of Zielona Góra, carried out on the night of January 5-6, 2024, all websites operating in the virtualization environment maintained in the Computer Center of the University of Zielona Góra were blocked.

Currently, cybersecurity specialists are conducting security analysis, inventorying losses and trying to gradually restore server and data environments, writes the university. UZ adds that the cyber attack has no impact on the course of teaching classes from January 8, which are taking place as planned. He adds that he will keep us updated on the progress of the attack.
