A tornado ripped through Fort Lauderdale, Florida, damaging boats and downing power lines on Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) office in Miami, officials received multiple calls and messages on social media a tornado near the federal highway around 5:50 p.m

The NWS issued a tornado warning for the storm about five minutes before the tornado was reported New York Post.

Fort Lauderdale officials said in a Facebook post that no injuries were reported and damage caused by the storm appears minor.

The tornado touched down west of Las Olas near the Intracoastal Waterway and moved east toward the oceanFort Lauderdale Mayor Dean Trantalis posted this on X, formerly Twitter.

There were no injuries and the damage appeared “controllable,” Trantalis said.

Crews were working to restore power and remove debris in the affected areas.according to the city of Fort Lauderdale.

The Palm Beach Post reported that the National Weather Service in Miami said in a statement that its office is conducting a preliminary study of storms on Sunday β€œregarding the tornado observed in the area from Federal Highway and SE 15th St to Las Olas Blvd”.
