US airline Alaska Airlines decided to ground its Boeing 737-9 aircraft after a plane with 177 people on board had to make an emergency landing on Friday after losing a window.
“Following tonight’s Flight 1282 incident, we have decided to temporarily ground our fleet of 65 Boeing 737-9 aircraft as a precautionary measure,” Alaska Airlines CEO Ben Minicucci announced in a statement.
“No aircraft will fly again until all maintenance and safety inspections are completedhe added, estimating this would take a few days.
Alaska Airlines Flight 1282 took off from Portland, in the northwest of the United States, at 5 p.m. local time on Friday, but had to return shortly after.a pressure problem”, the Federal Civil Aviation Agency (FAA) explained on the social network X.
Images posted on social media show a broken window and oxygen masks hanging from the ceiling of the unit.
A passenger on the flight, Kyle Rinker, spoke up cnn that the window had exploded shortly after takeoff.
The FAA is requiring immediate inspections of certain Boeing 737 MAX 9 aircraft before they can fly again.

According to the FlightAware website, the Boeing 737 Max 9 took off at 5:07 p.m., bound for Ontario, California, before returning to Portland airport about 20 minutes later.
The plane was certified in October, according to FAA records available online.
