The tragic death of baby Emma Dayana hurts the heart. The girl, who was carrying her mother in her arms as she tried to board a moving train, died on the afternoon of the first day of 2024 in Mexico and has shown the harsh face of the migration crisis.

Some women, like Instagram user @teachermarbe, think what happened is “irresponsibility” on the part of the parents.

The victim’s mother, Lourdes Guadalupe Centeno, 25, left Honduras five years ago. He settled in Mexico, but the idea was always to go to the United States.

Through tears, Lourdes Guadalupe told Noticias Telemundo: “It hurts me a lot to have lost my baby. I thought it was easy, but they are not (…) those who want to come (migrants), do not come… I wanted to give him a better life, but I was wrong, my God.”

By her side, her partner, Josué Alberto Portillo, said: “I will always carry her in my heart and in my thoughts.”

The victim’s grandmother speaks

In Honduras, Emma Dayana’s paternal grandmother has not yet come to terms with the news of the loss of her granddaughter. “It’s difficult,” Emma Martínez told Noticias Telemundo.

The painful events took place at the Ferromex yards, located in Arroyo San Miguel, municipality of El Carmen, in Nuevo León. The baby suffered a fatal blow due to the height and speed, complained Eric Cavazos, director of Civil Protection.

The immigrant parents, Lourdes Guadalupe and Josué Alberto Portillo, 22, “fortunately suffered minor injuries. They were discharged from the University Hospital of Monterrey on Tuesday, January 2 at 10 a.m.,” Cavazos added to the aforementioned network.

“Those who don’t have a job have to suffer”

Emma Dayana had two little brothers: Josué Alberto, 4 years old; and Naomi, 2. Her grandmother said she doesn’t know how she will fill the void of losing her granddaughter. “The saddest thing is the loss of a grandson. “I love my grandchildren as if they were my children,” he lamented.

“They (Emma Dayana’s parents) decided to take that path, to have a better future for themselves and their children. Here (Honduras) there is no work, whoever has it works; and those who do not have it must suffer,” Martínez said.

In networking, Orianna Monsalve said that “there is no reason to put your child’s life in such danger.”

@mfrodri435 stated: “Parents must face the law because only they are to blame, because it was a latent risk par excellence and unfortunately only parents are responsible.”

Yaya Corona said: “What happened is terrible, my God. Why do they take risks with a baby for the love of God?
