After entering a specific phrase in the search bar (e.g. “usd/pln”, “usd to pln”) at the top of the page, before the search results, Google displayed a small table with the current exchange rate of a given currency and an appropriate chart. Moreover, after entering an amount in any foreign currency, the search engine automatically displayed its value in Polish zlotys (or the currency appropriate to the country where the user is currently located).
Google has a problem with the Polish zloty. The search engine stopped showing currency rates
Currently – as we noticed on Tuesday morning – this function of the world’s most popular search engine does not work. At least if we are interested in the Polish currency. Entering phrases that usually allowed you to display a convenient table with exchange rates and a chart only results in displaying traditional search results. To check the exchange rate of the dollar, euro or pound sterling, you must open a link to a trusted website yourself. The situation is similar with the Google calculator, which for years has allowed us to quickly convert the amount we are interested in from the most popular currencies to the Polish zloty. Now you have to do it manually again.
Interestingly, however, the problem does not concern checking rates for currencies other than PLN. The phrases “usd/eur” or “100 usd to gbp” work without any problem. Google also allows you to still display the Google Finance page and manually search for specific currency pairs there. The rates are current and, according to the company’s indications, the dollar currently costs PLN 3.93 and the euro PLN 4.34 (these indications are correct – as of January 3 – 9 a.m.).

New Year’s currency frenzy at Google causes problems
One may suspect that the current search engine problems are the result of Google’s problems on Monday. According to Google’s information, the dollar was to cost as much as PLN 4.90 and the euro – PLN 5.40, which caused panic among some search engine users.
The case became so famous that the Minister of Finance, Andrzej DomaĆski, commented on it on the X platform. He explained the strange readings as an error on Google’s side. “Relax. The zloty exchange rate that is causing panic is a fake (data source error). In a moment, markets in Asia will open and the situation will return to normal. The situation looks like this on Bloomberg,” wrote the head of the Ministry of Finance, sharing the correct euro exchange rate.
Let’s hope that Google will deal with the problems and restore the rates of popular currencies in the form in which they were displayed so far. For years, this function has relieved us of the need to manually search for currency rates and convert specific amounts, especially when planning transactions and when traveling abroad. We asked the Google press office about the reasons for the disappearance of the characteristic table with currency rates. When we receive a response, we will update the article.
