Seoul Economic Daily: Samsung plant in US will open later due to problems
Samsung will not be able to open a semiconductor manufacturing plant in the United States due to financial problems. Bloomberg reports this with reference to the Korean edition of Seoul Economic Daily.
Sources said that the launch of production at the enterprise will take place later – it has been postponed until at least 2025. The failure occurred due to a lack of funding that the US authorities promised to provide to a foreign corporation.
Also, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), which produces processors for Apple, will not be able to start production before 2025 due to a lack of builders and related equipment. According to Bloomberg authors, new factories costing tens of billions of dollars may not come online until after the US presidential elections in 2024.
Bloomberg’s material states that the construction of Samsung and TSMC factories was supported by the administration of US President Joe Biden. The American president said that through local production it would be possible to reduce dependence on Chinese companies and avoid shortages. According to journalists, Biden promised $100 billion in investment to foreign corporations, but so far the government has allocated only one grant of only $35 million.
Earlier it became known that South Korean Samsung stopped producing parts for Russian tankers transporting liquefied natural gas (LNG). However, the manufacturer has not yet terminated the contract.
