Apple will compensate users due to advertising
Apple has agreed to compensate users who may have been harmed by branded advertising. This was reported by Popular Science.
As journalists learned, Apple has settled a legal dispute over Family Sharing advertising. As part of the agreement, the company will distribute $30, or about 2.8 thousand rubles, to affected users, while the final amount may increase to $50. The IT giant will also reimburse legal expenses.
The lawsuit was originally filed in 2019. In it, users claimed that Apple misled them with Family Sharing advertising. This feature allows users to share their subscriptions to services from Apple and other companies among loved ones. However, not all third-party services allowed the division of their subscriptions in this way, which the company did not mention in its advertising materials.
As a result, the corporation agreed to pay compensation, although it did not admit guilt. According to journalists, owners of Apple equipment who used the Family Sharing function from June 21, 2015 to January 30, 2019 can request payment. The application for compensation must be submitted before March 1, 2024.
At the end of November 2022, Apple agreed to pay compensation to MacBook owners with a problematic keyboard. Users of MacBook, MacBook Air and MacBook Pro released in 2015 and 2016 could count on the payment.
