Last October, California Governor Gavin Newsom signed a bill that would impact immigrants.

This is SB 831, which was introduced to the Human Services Committee by Senator Anna Caballero in April and passed unanimously.

The Visa Waiver program remains unchanged: these are the countries that can enter the United States without the document

This law makes it possible for immigrants who do not have documents to access temporary work permits.

The regulations provide that the Governor may enter into negotiations with the Attorney General of the United States to develop a program that grants immigration parole to undocumented agricultural workers, that is, opening the way for them to obtain protection and temporary obtain work visas.

The portal Univision explains that one of the benefits of this California law is to grant temporary residency or parole to agricultural workers, they will also be protected from arrest and a renewable temporary work permit will be granted.

Beneficiaries also include workers in agricultural or livestock farming and poultry production, as well as dairy products and sawmills or reforestation.

This form of protection does not guarantee that a permanent residence permit will be granted. (JO)
