MacRumors: Apple’s wireless charging prototype turned out to be dangerous for gadgets

A video showing a prototype of an unreleased inductive charger for Apple gadgets has been posted online. This was reported by MacRumors.

A short video with a rectangular charging pad and an AirPods headphone case placed on it was shown in X gadget collector under the nickname KosutamiSan. Judging by the video, the prototype charger turned out to be working: upon contact with it, a light on the headphone case lit up, indicating the start of charging.

In a conversation with reporters, the author explained that he had come across an early prototype of AirPower, a device for wirelessly charging simultaneously a smartphone, headphones and smartwatches. At the same time, the accessory did not work as Apple engineers had planned – in particular, it overheated and could be dangerous for other devices.

The author said that all three gadgets – iPhone, AirPods and Apple Watch – were charging normally when the devices were placed in their places on the site. However, if gadgets were laid out carelessly, they began to overheat. According to KosutamiSan, the AirPods case turned black while charging.

MacRumors journalists clarified that the problems occurred due to lack of positioning. Apple subsequently abandoned AirPower, but solved the problem in MagSafe by adding magnets.

Earlier, Bloomberg insider Mark Gurman said that a new button will appear in the iPhone 16 series smartphones. Gurman explained that when you click on it, you can quickly take a photo or record a video.
