On the night from Monday to Tuesday, the third multiplex (MUX-3) of digital terrestrial television was switched to the new DVB-T2 HEVC standard.
At this point, it is worth clearly pointing out that the recently completed change in the broadcasting standard applies only to households that received terrestrial television from an antenna. Therefore, it has no impact on those who use cable and satellite television.
No TVP channels on terrestrial television. Try retuning the TV
If you have been using terrestrial television so far, and after December 19, instead of TVP channels, you see a black screen or information about the lack of signal, there are two possibilities – either you need to tune your TV, or it does not support the DVB-T2 HEVC standard, and therefore you need to it will be necessary to replace it (or buy a special attachment).
This can be verified very easily. If you receive other digital TV channels (e.g. Polsat or TVN) that switched to the new broadcasting standard last year, it means that your receiver supports DVB-T2 HEVC and you only need to perform an automatic search for TVP channels.
It can be done in a very simple way. Below is an example of what it looks like in the case of LG TVs (it is almost identical for other manufacturers).
- 1) Turn on the TV
- 2. Select the ‘Settings’ button on the remote control (marked with a gear icon)
- 3) Select ‘All settings’
- 4) Go to the ‘Channels’ section
- 5) Select ‘Channel tuning and settings’
- 6) Select ‘Automatic tuning’
- 7) After several dozen seconds, the TV should search for new channels
If, despite trying to tune the receiver, you still do not have access to TVP channels, your receiver probably does not support the DVB-T2 standard. Then the solution is to replace it. It is estimated that up to 200 thousand As a result, Poles could lose access to TVP1, TVP2 and TVP Info channels.
Currently, all TV sets available in stores (even the cheapest ones) support DVB-T2 television. So there is no risk of buying a receiver that will not work in the new standard. An alternative to replacing the receiver is to buy a special set-top box, i.e. a DVB-T tuner, which costs around PLN 100-150.
Replacement of the receiver without any additional payment from the state
In 2022, households using older TV sets could benefit from a government subsidy program for the purchase of new equipment. It was PLN 100 for a new decoder/tuner or PLN 250 for a new TV.
– 543,724 households benefited from subsidies under the program and received financial support worth over PLN 68 million. These subsidies enabled the purchase of 450,372 set-top boxes and 93,352 TV sets – the Chancellery of the President of the Media Council reported in March.
This year, however, such a subsidy program is no longer in force, which means that any replacement of equipment must be done on your own.
