It is virtually impossible not to get into the Christmas spirit. In recent hours, a TikTok video, which quickly jumped to other platforms, went viral showing a group of people on a plane praying Christmas or the Strenna Novena.

“Praying the novena close to God is my passion,” says Ana María, a social media user. While Aleja Solano notes, “My grandmother taught me not to miss a single day of the Novena, so it could be perfectly up to me,” said Aleja Solano.

“Come to our soul, come, don’t wait so long,” sings a group of passengers, who read on the screen of their mobile phone the order of the joys of the novena, which is traditional in Ecuador, Colombia and certain regions of Venezuela, a country where around these dates they celebrate the Christmas Bonus Masses, the purpose of which is the same as the novena: to prepare the hearts of the people to receive again the Child Jesus who is about to be born.

The guys praying during the flight are Colombians and the person spreading the unexpected video is the user @paula.restrepo. Uploading it, he wrote on TikTok on Sunday, December 17, 2023: “And here I thought I wouldn’t arrive in time to pray the novena.”

Noticias Caracol published the story and replicated the message they also left on that social network: “Imagine living in Switzerland and missing this.”

Praying the Christmas Novena on an airplane is exciting on networks

Social media users react happily to the gesture of these young people on the plane.

They say: “In Colombia we have a lot of creativity, we do things that no one would believe”, “Which flight should the Novena take”, “I have a flight on December 19, let’s see what happens”, “I love your Colombia,” “I want a novena on a plane,” and “I didn’t know I wanted a novena on a plane until now.”

And who doesn’t agree with that?

As with everything, and there is no shortage of this at Christmas, there are those who disagree with the unusual prayer on the plane.

As if “The Grinch” had taken over some, they spread comments like this:

-”I’ve been to Colombia a thousand times and I’ve never done this nonsense, and I never will do this nonsense. It’s about respect and knowing how to be there.”

-“People are mountain climbers, I prefer to live in Switzerland and don’t see this”

-“It seems a bit disrespectful to me if there are people who don’t want to pray.”

How do you pray the Strenna or Christmas Novena 2023? The whole ritual step by step

Akemy says, “Well, I love this. The world may be going through one of the worst moments in history, where evil is growing and no one seems to care. So it is encouraging to think that there are still people who prefer to pray together wherever they are.

And Mailén Morelo leaves the reflection in reconciliation: “If there were more people like this, the world would be happier.” (JO)
