At a second hearing into the painful case of the 13-year-old teenager accused of murdering his mother in October 2023, tears prevailed. The maternal grandmother did not stop crying, and Derek Rosa himself was overwhelmed.

Rosa has been in custody since the night of October 12. He had previously contacted 911 to report that his mother, Irina García, was dead. The events took place in Hialeah, Florida.

Last week, American media published images of the crime scene. Two of them are strong: the one with the knife and the one with Derek next to the bed where his mother was resting.

The photos were shared by the Miami-Dade District Attorney’s Office.

During this new trial, shocking data were heard, such as the number of injuries to the body of García, who left behind a baby that was only 14 days old.

In Univisión they reviewed: Derek Rosa “breaks” upon hearing his own confession. According to that news network, “one of the detectives in charge of the case was questioned and a chilling video of Rosa’s confession was presented to police.”

That detective noted that Irina García “suffered 46 stab wounds, several of which were to the face.” The minor – as captured in images broadcast in media and networks – “bowed his head and appeared to cry as his confession was presented to investigators in court.”

The young man allegedly “googled” information that Detective Joseph Elosegui offered during the hearing.

He stated that Derek Rosa had made “several online searches, including “What is the best place to stab someone?”, “Is a small knife good for killing?”, “Is it easier to kill someone with a small knife?” ” and “Can a knife cut bones?”

On the night of October 12, 2023, after attacking his mother, the teenager took a selfie and allegedly sent images to a friend, according to what he told 911.

He identified that friend as “Sweden,” “whom he met three years ago through video games.”

The only areas without stab wounds were behind the knees.

In late October, the 13-year-old minor pleaded “not guilty” and was sent to prison. Until Friday morning, December 15, there was discussion about whether he would be transferred to an adult prison or to a juvenile facility.

During this new hearing, it was also learned what happened before the brutal murder.

“The young man says he went to school and stayed home when he returned. And about ten o’clock at night he went to sleep and when he woke up he went into the kitchen, took a knife and went into the room where his mother was sleeping. He said an angry word to her and allegedly stabbed her twice in the neck,” Univisión reported.

On Google, according to Cubita Now, which quotes the detective, “the last search (on Google) was a question about a machine gun.” Rosa is charged with first-degree murder and will be tried as an adult.
