In the middle of the year, he announced a huge investment in Wrocław worth USD 4.6 billion (PLN 18.72 billion). He then called the project “the largest foreign investment in the history of Poland.” The American technology giant wants to build a large semiconductor assembly and testing plant in Lower Silesia. This week, Intel announced that the plant will be managed by American Greg Anderson, who has been associated with the company for 20 years. Previously, he dealt with, among others, directing American work.
A change of government will not harm the investment
– We will contact the new government, but the ministers have only just taken up their positions and they probably have many priority issues. However, we will definitely continue cooperation with the Polish government and I am sure it will be fruitful – he said in an interview with .pl about the new situation in Poland. – Intel’s strategy to create the first such complete value chain in Europe remains unchanged. The we project is its key element. Without it, without this part of production, we will not achieve our goal. We hope that Poland will continue the policy that has made this country an attractive place for planned investments, added Greg Anderson.
The complex is to cooperate closely with the already operating silicon wafer production plant in Leixlip, Ireland, and the factory under construction in Magdeburg. Such cooperation – as Intel boasts – is to create “the first of its kind” and the most modern production chain in Europe. Intel’s new investment is also part of Intel’s plans to increase Europe’s share in global semiconductor production by 2023 and achieve 20 percent. share in the global chip production market by 2030.
In an interview with “” Anderson confirmed previous reports that the plant in the small town of Miękinia, 25 km from Wrocław, will be built by 2027. It will be based on factory designs in Malaysia and taking into account Polish weather conditions. Ultimately, as many as three production plants will be built.
The Intel factory is to be based on Poles
The factory is to employ up to about 6,000 workers, but in the first stage there will be about 2,000 of them. Recruitment has already started. The Semiconductor Integration and Testing Department is looking for, among others: construction and infrastructure design specialist, quality and reliability engineer or production systems engineer. Anderson declared that he wanted most of the positions to be filled by Poles and only the most specialized positions were to be given to foreigners.
Intel also wants to train its own specialists at Polish universities. In an interview with “Puls Biznesu”, the new head of the plant in Poland said that he planned meetings with the authorities of universities and schools to familiarize themselves with the teaching programs and perhaps suggest modifications to meet Intel’s needs. He has done the same in other places. The Wrocław region is rich in graduates of universities such as the Wrocław University of Science and Technology and the University of Wrocław, and the former has the largest share in the number of graduates in ICT (teleinformatics) fields in our country.
