Attackers steal money through payment using a QR code to obtain data
Attackers are actively using QR code payments to obtain users’ personal data. Expert Vahe Zakaryan told the Prime agency about this.
This payment method is not as secure as payments using a regular bank card. According to Zakaryan, when purchasing in stores, you must pay attention to who is indicated as the recipient, because if the details are changed, it will be impossible to return your funds or refuse the purchase, the expert warned.
In this case, dynamic codes that are generated for a specific purchase are more secure.
“If a static QR code is used, then you need to keep in mind that scammers can stick their own on top of the correct code,” Zakarian warned.
The specialist also said that cashback for payment using a QR code is not always accrued. Payments can be made in this way only at retail outlets with a stable Internet connection. So, if the signal is lost, the cash register will not issue a receipt, and the purchase will not take place, even if the funds have already been debited. At the same time, if the money went to the correct store account, it will be returned later.
According to Zakarian, when paying online you also need to take care of the security of the transaction. Fraudsters use fake QR codes and codes with phishing links embedded in them. Also, you should not trust various stocks. Such as sales and lotteries on suspiciously favorable terms, using QR codes, the expert summarized.
Earlier, expert Denis Kovalev said that public Wi-Fi can be infected with malware, so when connecting to it you need to follow several rules. According to the information security specialist, not all public networks are secure. Those that do not require a password and registration are unprotected.
Thus, Kovalev recommended disabling the option to automatically connect to Wi-Fi on your smartphone. This is due to the fact that the system in this case connects to the network with the best signal.
