The Ministry of Health of Japan announced this Wednesday the first death in the country from monkeypoxmore than a year after discovering his first case of infection with this disease.
The deceased is a patient in his 30s who lives in Saitama Prefecture (north of Tokyo) and also suffered from immunodeficiency, according to the entity.
The Asian country confirmed its first case of infection with monkeypox, called mpox for the World Health Organization (WHO)in July last year.

It is a viral zoonosiswhich is identified by rash or skin lesions which, according to the WHO, tend to concentrate on the face, palms and soles of the feet.
It is mainly transmitted by direct or indirect contact with blood, body fluids, skin lesions or mucous membranes of infected animals. Also secondary, through contact with infected respiratory secretions or skin lesions of an infected person.
Currently, there is no treatment for monkeypox, only treatments to relieve symptoms and prevent consequences.
Last May, the WHO announced the end of the international emergency due to the outbreak of this disease, after having registered about 87,000 infections in 111 countries and 140 deaths to date. (JO)
