PhoneArena: Sony will stop producing smartphones under the Xperia brand in 2024
The Japanese corporation Sony will stop producing smartphones under the Xperia brand. This was reported by PhoneArena.
Media journalists cited Chinese insiders who said that the corporation had worked out plans to abandon the well-known trademark. Apparently, the company will stop producing Xperia devices in 2024, switching to other devices.
At the same time, the company will not leave the smartphone market. Most likely, the IT giant will present a new line of devices called Sony or Sony Phone. It is expected that in 2025 the corporation will carry out a redesign: in particular, its smartphones will receive a front camera hidden under the front panel.
According to PhoneArena journalists, the Xperia line is not very popular due to the high cost and small volume of smartphones produced. In the global market, the firm has a share of about 0.35 percent, ranking 14th.
The Xperia trademark appeared in 2008, the first smartphone released under the brand was the Xperia X1. Before this, the company produced phones under the Sony Ericsson brand.
Earlier it became known that the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 became the best-selling folding smartphone in the third quarter of 2023. Samsung’s share in the segment was 72 percent.
