Tomatoes were grown on the International Space Station (ISS) as part of an experiment. It was led by astronaut Frank Rubio. The last harvest was made at the end of March 2023. It was then that one of the tomatoes went missing under unknown circumstances.
Lost tomato on the ISS. “Frank Rubio was blamed for eating a tomato.”
– Our good friend Frank Rubio has been blamed for eating a tomato for a long time. But we can acquit him. We found a tomato, said astronaut Jasmin Moghbeli during a live broadcast organized to celebrate the station’s 25th anniversary. However, she did not explain where the space tomato was “hiding” and what condition it was in after being found.
The astronaut grew tomatoes on the ISS
Frank Rubio raised dwarf Red Robins on the ISS. One of the vegetables was missing. The astronaut first spoke on this topic in September during a live broadcast. – I spent many hours searching. I’m sure that a dried tomato will appear at some point and will justify me in a few years, he said.
Then in October, about two weeks after returning to Earth (Frank Rubio spent 371 days in space), journalists asked the astronaut about the missing tomato. He admitted that he spent 18-20 hours searching for the experimental vegetable.
– The problem is that the humidity there is about 17 percent. “Probably the tomato is so dry that you can’t tell what it was and someone just threw it away,” Rubio said. “I hope someone finds this little wrinkled thing someday,” he added.
