End of the reduced tariff. YouTube Premium will be more expensive. New prices for everyone

YouTube announced the final end of the reduced tariff. People who still pay for the Premium package under the old rules (i.e. at a lower price) will have to dig deeper into their pockets. Since December, we have been paying more for YouTube in Poland as well.

A few months ago, YouTube announced an increase in the rates of its Premium packages. In July, the increases covered subscribers living in the US, but in the following months they also appeared in the rest of the world. Some, however, were still entitled to a lower price. Until now.

YouTube is raising prices for everyone. It doesn’t matter how long you pay

The website states that YouTube is sending e-mails to users in the US with information about the increase in the preferential rates paid by the oldest (permanent) subscribers of the Premium offer from the new year. Specifically, this concerns people who were automatically transferred from the now closed YouTube Red and Google Play Music services to YouTube Premium and YouTube Music.

Such customers have so far paid $8 or $10 a month to use the paid version of the platform, but all of them will pay as much as $14 from January. YouTube explains that the price increase is necessary to further improve the platform and “support creators and artists.”

YouTube Premium is also getting more expensive in Poland. Is it still profitable?

However, also in our country, all existing and new users must take into account the new higher price from December. Individual and student packages have increased in price very slightly, by only PLN 2 and one zloty (to PLN 25.99 and PLN 14.99, respectively). However, the price of a family subscription has increased significantly, which instead of PLN 35.99 costs as much as PLN 46.99 per month. In such a situation, some may come to the conclusion that paying for YouTube is simply no longer profitable.

YouTube Premium allows you to completely get rid of ads from the platform. But that’s not the end of the advantages. The package includes, among others: the ability to watch videos in the background and on a locked screen, download them to the phone’s memory or play certain materials at a higher bandwidth (so-called bitrate). The package also gives you access to YouTube Music.

(i.e. without the consumer’s express consent) is inconsistent with Polish law. As a result, Amazon has already changed its rules in Poland (in Prime services). YouTube has not yet responded to the matter in any way.
