Neither Estela Vásquez nor Cynthia Torres could believe what they saw on television: the girl allegedly abandoned by her mother in an American hospital was their granddaughter and niece, respectively. The youngest is 6 years old and told the doctors and nurses her name was Alejandra.

Univision reported on Wednesday, December 6, 2023 that Dallas, Texas authorities are “rushing” to locate a relative of the little girl whose photo they published.

The girl’s grandmother and aunt saw the report and, crying in front of the Univision cameras, asked the mother to give them custody. “He is with strangers, he must miss us,” said the grandmother.

Alejandra went to Child Protective Services and the two women similarly propose to return them to her.
