Apple suddenly improves old iPhones with an update

iOS 17.2 adds support for faster charging for older iPhones

Apple has suddenly added support for faster charging to all smartphones released since 2021. Android Authority reports this.

Media journalists studied the iOS 17.2 RC (Release Candidate) magazine, in which they discovered an innovation. An update to the Qi2 wireless charging standard has become available for iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 series smartphones. Qi2 protocol support has been available on the iPhone 15 series since its release.

With the improved standard, iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 will charge using 15-watt wireless charging. Before the update, the devices also supported 15-watt wireless charging, but only with original Apple accessories. For example, MagSafe magnetic charging.

The authors noted that the previous generation Qi1 standard limited the energy transmission power by half – to 7.5 watts. Apparently, the public release of iOS 17.2 will take place in the coming weeks.

Earlier, insider Mark Gurman said that Apple had begun preparing for the emergence of the 6G communication standard. At the same time, the company recently stopped developing its own 5G modem due to a failure in the development of the component.
