Euronet set a “trap” in ATMs. Do you want to avoid the fee? You have to be on your guard

You go to the ATM, make a withdrawal and… pay a PLN 5 commission. Every time. Euronet has embedded an additional fee in its ATMs, which is simply difficult to notice. However, there is a way to avoid it, although you need to be vigilant.

It seems that Euronet has come up with a new idea that customers definitely won’t like. The company decided that it was worth linking an additionally paid service related to cash withdrawal and displaying it as a default option on the ATM screen. The careless will pay, but the commission can be bypassed.

You click payout and the balance pops up. And the money disappears. A new idea for Euronet

Euronet introduced a new option that allows you to both withdraw cash and check your balance with the click of one button in August. The option, of course, enraged customers who instinctively clicked this button and lost a few zlotys each time they checked their balance. However, the network allowed you to select other options on the same screen – including: just a withdrawal or just a balance check.

Now Euronet has decided to introduce further changes and completely remodeled the interface in its ATMs. Marcel Zatoński from Puls Biznesu published a photo on the X website showing the new look of the system in the network’s ATMs. Now, after inserting the card into the machine, two options appear: “PLN withdrawal and balance” and “Other services”. Clicking on the first one means that the ATM will not only allow you to withdraw money, but will also display the account balance, which, of course, is usually associated with a fee (usually a few zlotys).

Of course, there is a way to avoid the fee. People interested only in withdrawing money (which is – as you might suspect – the vast majority) must go to the “Other services” option, and there they will find the “Cash withdrawal in PLN” button, hidden among several other options to choose from. It is unclear whether Euronet has modified all of its ATMs in Poland in this way, but it is undoubtedly worth being vigilant when making withdrawals.

A friend reports that Euronet has tweaked its interface even more. To avoid paying for a balance check when withdrawing from an ATM, click ‘other services’. Bravo, bravo, I hope that the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection is already looking into these practices

– Zatoński wrote on the X website.

Perhaps Euronet decided that searching for an option interesting for the customer in the thicket of others is so convenient that it is worth introducing changes to the interface. Either way, it’s easy to make a mistake. A moment of inattention and instead of withdrawing cash, we can also commission a service to check the account balance. And suddenly it turns out that a few zlotys disappear from the account after each withdrawal.
