Elon Musk’s electric monster is finally hitting the roads. But that’s not how it was supposed to be

Tesla Cybertruck, Elon Musk’s dream electric monster, goes on sale. You can download it even to Poland, but you will have to wait a while for your copy. And reach into his pockets much deeper than the billionaire declared.

Tesla Cybertruck, the electric pickup truck announced in 2019, is finally officially entering the market. All the details, as well as the price, have already appeared on the website of the company headed by Elon Musk. Unfortunately, not the one the billionaire promised four years ago.

It can tow five tons and accelerates like a Ferrari. But it’s far from perfect

Tesla advertises that the Cybertruck is a real beast on wheels. The towing capacity of the controversial-looking car is a paltry 4,990 kg, and the acceleration to 100 km/h is only 2.7 seconds. In this second issue, only a small number of sports cars outperform Tesla electric cars. The range in this version (called Cyber-Bestia by the company) is only 515 km. The weaker version is slightly better (547 km), and the base version can boast only 402 km of range. It’s a far cry from the 800 km promised years ago.

Only with an additional battery pack will the Cybertruck travel 755 km on a single charge. At least according to the specifications, because in practice it may look different. We also have to complain about the base model, which not only boasts much slower acceleration (6.7 seconds to 100 km/h), but is only rear-wheel drive. Poor for a beast “created with every planet in mind” – as Tesla describes his machine.

Therefore, the key numbers dropped compared to the 2019 announcement, but the price increased. Tesla initially promised that we would be able to buy the Cybertruck for as little as PLN 40,000. dollars. However, years of waiting have caused the price to increase significantly. Currently, the base model costs $60,990 (net). The most interesting and powerful version costs almost PLN 100,000. dollars. In Poland – unless, of course, anyone decides to bring such a monster to the country – it will be even more expensive, because additional fees must be added to the basic price – customs duty, excise duty and tax.

Some customers who reserved their Cybertruck as soon as it became available will receive their units soon. If we order the electric monster now, we will wait until 2025 for delivery in the case of the base version. Two more expensive versions should be available to customers in 2024.

Tesla’s electric beast is the idea of Elon Musk himself. He wanted to surprise with something

Tesla Cybertruck is the apple of Elon Musk’s eye. While Tesla’s designers proposed a more subdued design, the billionaire rejected their ideas out of hand. His dream car was supposed to look like something from the distant future and be a real beast on wheels. The company’s employees couldn’t meet the requirements of their eccentric boss for a long time, but when he saw the Cybertruck project, he shouted “Perfect!” and “We’re making this car.”

Recently, when determining the appearance of the Model Y, a crossover based on the Model 3, Musk was dissuaded from some more radical and unconventional ideas. Now he wanted not to approach the pickup’s design so conservatively. “Let’s be bold,” he ordered. “Let’s surprise people with something.” Every time someone pointed to a photo with some conventional solution, Musk objected and pointed at cars from the Halo computer game, the Cyberpunk 2077 trailer or the Ridley Scott film Blade Runner. (…) By July 2019, von Holzhausen and Morris managed to build a full-size model of the car with a futuristic, raw design: sharp angles, diamond-like facets. One Friday, they surprised Musk, who hadn’t seen it before, by placing it in the middle of the living room next to a more traditional model they had been considering before. Musk reacted as soon as he stepped through the door leading to the studio from the SpaceX factory. “Perfect!” he shouted. “I love it! We’re making this car. Yes, that’s what we’re going to build! Okay, okay, it’s done.”

– we read in a fragment of Walter Isaacson’s book “Elon Musk”, which appeared on sale a few days ago. The full biography of the controversial and eccentric billionaire can be found below:
