The portal’s journalists referred to well-known insiders from Asia, according to whom the American IT giant temporarily closed the program to develop its own modems. The corporation planned to produce modems operating in fifth generation networks and install them on branded devices.

According to insiders, Apple’s attempts to get closer to achieving this goal ended in failure. Japanese sources said that due to failures, the corporation would curtail multimillion-dollar investments in the project.

MacRumors journalists noted that in 2019, Apple hired a large number of engineers and acquired most of Intel’s smartphone modem business. The specialists were faced with the task of developing their own modem by 2023. It was reported that Apple is “years behind” its competitors on this issue.

The material says that the IT giant will continue to purchase modems from partners. One of the goals of developing our own equipment was to reduce dependence on third-party manufacturers.

At the end of November, Bloomberg contributor Mark Gurman said that Apple intends to launch computers with cellular support. According to the observer, this will happen if the company develops its own modem.
