TechRadar: Google Calendar will stop working on Android 7 smartphones

The popular Google Calendar service will stop working on a number of older Android smartphones. This was reported by TechRadar.

Media journalists referred to specialists who studied the new version of the Google service and found in the code a mention that the program would stop working on a number of devices. The message states that the current version of the service will only be active on smartphones running Android 8 or a newer OS.

The authors noted that in this way, Google Calendar will not work on devices with Android 7. Journalists of the publication emphasized that, according to StatCounter, the share of the operating system is 2.12 percent – that is, millions of consumers continue to use the outdated OS.

Android 7 Nougat was released in 2016. The latest Android 7.1.2 update appeared in April 2017 – the system has not been updated since then. Journalists suggested that Google Calendar will stop working as a built-in OS application, but access to it will remain through the browser.

At the end of November, it became known that in December Google would begin deleting inactive user accounts for a number of services. The corporation explained this measure by freeing up space on servers and increasing data security.
