Huge earnings for artificial intelligence specialists. They get more, but companies have no choice

Today, an artificial intelligence specialist is an extremely profitable profession. Employees are sought after and well rewarded, but companies have no choice. They have to pay them more than others. The recent OpenAI scandal showed how much say AI engineers have today.

, citing data from the Levels.fyi platform, artificial intelligence specialists can currently count on higher salaries than their colleagues holding similar positions but specializing in other fields. And significantly. Differences in payouts range from 8 to 12.5 percent.

Very high salaries of artificial intelligence specialists. Companies have no choice

For example, in OpenAI, the organization responsible for the development of ChatuGPT, an AI engineer earns on average from PLN 200,000 to PLN 370,000. dollars per year (from $16.7 thousand to $30.8 thousand per month). As Reuters reported, more specialized workers in the US can count on much more – on average from PLN 300,000 to even PLN 450,000. dollars per year (from 25 to 37.5 thousand dollars per month). Many of them can also count on huge bonuses or shares in the companies they work for.

However, companies dealing with artificial intelligence have no choice. They must pay AI specialists well because the competition on the market is huge and the pace of artificial intelligence development is extremely high. Meanwhile, there is a shortage of good, experienced programmers, software engineers and AI specialists. If you want to keep them, you have to pay them more than others before the competition picks them up.

This, in turn, shows how much power artificial intelligence experts currently enjoy. Just remember the recent scandal related to OpenAI. After the company’s board of directors decided to unexpectedly fire co-founder and CEO Sam Altman and fellow co-founder Greg Brockman, both men immediately found jobs at Microsoft, where they would lead the AI team.

However, the artificial intelligence specialists working at OpenAI did not like the dismissal of the co-founders. Some of them, along with Altman and Brockman, left for Microsoft, and most of the others threatened termination if the supervisory board did not resign. There will probably be more such situations in the future.
