Google announced its account cleaning operation a few months ago. The company wants to get rid of inactive accounts that users use very rarely. The giant claims that the data collected on them is easy prey for hackers. And at the same time, it will regain very valuable space on its servers.
Google is starting to delete inactive accounts. There are a few exceptions
As announced, inactive accounts are to disappear on December 1, i.e. this Friday. First, the internet giant will deal with accounts that have been created but have never been used. It will then proceed to delete accounts where users have not logged in for at least two years.
For now, however, the company will spare accounts from which someone published some material on YouTube (and it is still available). Google will also not delete accounts that are associated with an Android smartphone, were used to activate a Google service or subscription and it is still active, contain a gift card with a cash balance, or have an app with an active subscription. All others (not used for two years) are to be removed.
November 30 is the last day when we can still save such a long-forgotten account. Some users still store there old documents, files, photos or e-mails that they have not used for a long time, but they do not want to lose them. Therefore, it is worth logging in to such an account today and, for example, downloading this data to the memory of a computer or smartphone or transferring it to another cloud.
How to save your Google account? Some simple ways
Google also admitted that there are several ways to keep your long-unused account. Fortunately, saving your account will only take a few moments at most. All you need to do is log in to it and perform some action so that Google will assume that you are using it. You can, for example:
- send email on Gmail,
- use the Google search engine as a logged in user,
- watch something on YouTube,
- open or upload a file to Drive,
- download the application from the Play Store,
- share the image in the Photos app.
