is an installation composed of photovoltaic panels that convert energy obtained from solar radiation into electricity. The panels are usually mounted on roofs or frames attached directly to the ground. With the arrival of winter, doubts arise among photovoltaic owners. Should the panels be cleared of snow?
Can snow destroy photovoltaic panels? The producers predicted “Polish” weather
Although the main purpose of photovoltaic panels is to obtain energy from, their manufacturers are aware that they must be resistant to various weather conditions. Therefore, they undergo a series of tests during which they are exposed to: wind, rain, snow and even hail. For this purpose, the panels are placed in wind tunnels. The tests also take into account issues such as loads, temperature and air humidity. This means that we do not have to worry about the panels being damaged by snow.
Photovoltaics in winter. How to clear snow from photovoltaic panels and is it necessary?
Considering how photovoltaics work, it seems logical that installation will be necessary during the winter. In winter, it produces less energy due to significantly fewer sunny days. Panel owners often decide to clear snow from them because they believe that snow cover negatively affects their efficiency. In fact, snow can reduce the amount of electricity obtained by up to three percent, and there are no special devices on the market dedicated to removing it from installations. In the case of panels installed on the roof, it is not worth trying to remove the snow cover from them. Its slope will allow the snow to slide off quickly, and climbing on a slippery surface of this type may end tragically. If we insist on cleaning the above-ground panels, we can do it with a soft brush.
