Google is testing a big change on Android smartphones. Not everyone will like it

Google is testing a big change on Android smartphones. It may turn out that soon a key element of the company’s flagship application will be located in a completely different place. Not everyone will like this new thing.

Google is constantly working on new products that are intended to make it easier to use the giant’s services. This time, the Google application was used, which not only facilitates searching for information on the Internet, but also constitutes the center of account management on Android smartphones.

Google is testing a new feature in Android that will change your habits

The change seems prosaic, but it can radically change the convenience of using the flagship Google app and the entire smartphone. It turns out that the company is testing a new version of the application in which the key element, the search bar, is located almost at the very bottom of the screen. AssembleDebug, which searches for tested new features in Google services, noticed that such a refreshed version is being tested in the recently released beta version of the application.

This is quite a strange change in the approach of Google, which has placed the search bar at the top of the screen in its applications since the beginning of Android. Over the years, we have been accustomed to this appearance of the interface, so now many users may not like the new look. However, it is not clear whether and when Google will release a ready-made version of the app with a changed location of the bar.

It is worth noting that in all its Android services, Google traditionally places the search bar at the top of the screen, so refreshing it in only one app (but the most important one) would introduce quite a mess in the ecosystem. The internet giant might therefore have to follow suit and finally move the search bar to the bottom of the screen across all of its services. Currently, this option is available in the Google Chrome browser, but only in the version for iOS smartphones (iPhones).

It’s hard to say why Google is considering such an important change now. Perhaps this is the desire to make it easier for us to use the phone with one hand, which – when the search bar is at the bottom – would actually make sense. On the other hand, smartphones with screens over 6 or 6.5 inches have been the standard for years, and Google has apparently seen no need to make changes so far.
