A Dominican family experiences an indescribable tragedy in the United States, where they say goodbye to 19-year-old Ommatt Cruz.
The Univisión 41 journalist said in his report that within the family it is observed that everyone is “immersed in deep pain.”
They describe him as loving, collaborative and a fan of football.
“This is a double tragedy. Not only did our family lose Ommat, we all lost because this world needs good people like him,” an uncle of the victim told that channel, refraining from revealing his identity.
Last year, the young man had graduated from high school and was working in the construction industry with his father.
What happened to Ommatt?
On Friday, November 17, 2023, Ommatt died in a shocking and painful accident: he was run over by a forklift truck (crane) operated by his own father.
That day, both had finished painting the facade of a building and were preparing to load the forklift onto a truck, according to Univisión.
“But they did it the other way around: the young man led the process and monitored the safety of pedestrians and cars. Apparently he neglected his safety in no time,” Rolman Vergara explains in his report for the television medium.

The young man was sitting between a car and the forklift and the parent apparently did not see him, Univisión indicated.
The incident took place in Manhattan and is being treated as an unfortunate accident. This is being investigated in New York by law enforcement and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), an entity that reports to the U.S. Department of Labor.

I loved American football
He loved American football, played for the Wagner Falcons and was the captain of the team, according to his uncle.
Sadly, the club coach said, “Everyone loved Ommatt.”
“He was always willing to help,” family members said.
He was a wonderful young man with an emotional mind.
