The Independent: Apple opposes downloading apps bypassing the App Store
Apple spoke about the dangers of downloading applications bypassing the App Store. This was reported by The Independent.
According to Ivan Krstic, head of Apple’s security design and architecture department, the corporation is seriously studying the possibility of hacking the iPhone. Krstic said the company is also confident that the ability to install applications bypassing the App Store, which is required by European Union (EU) laws, will negatively impact user security.
Krstic opposed this method of installing programs on Apple devices. According to him, if this happens, a large number of untested applications will appear on the market. “In this case, these users will have no choice – to obtain this software through a distribution mechanism that they trust,” said a representative of the IT giant.
Ivan Krstic emphasized that Apple has repeatedly talked about the dangers of downloading applications bypassing the built-in store. “This is a big misunderstanding, and we tried to explain it again and again,” said the company’s top manager.
Journalists from The Independent recalled that Apple has repeatedly defended the App Store. Thus, in 2021, corporate vice president Craig Federighi called the method of downloading applications without verification “a cybercriminal’s best friend.”
In June, Apple representatives first commented on the possible appearance of a function for downloading applications on the iPhone without using the App Store. Vice President of the company Craig Federighi said that the corporation is considering introducing such an option.
