Miracle! shouted with one voice a large number of Catholic faithful, who looked in amazement at the tears streaming from the eyes of a statue of the Virgin Mary in the church in Colima, Mexico. What is a divine work for many, has a logical explanation for others and would not be an unusual occurrence.
In the middle of a pilgrimage of believers carried out on Thursday, November 16 in the community of El Canal, in the state of Colima, the image of Mary in her devotion to the Virgin of Sorrows began to weep, as reported by TN.

Some skeptics look for a scientific explanation for tears. The aforementioned portal points out that some sculptures can absorb water due to the porosity of the material, according to Professor Luigi Garlaschelli.
“You need a hollow plaster or ceramic statue, which must be covered on the outside with a waterproof layer and When you fill it with water through an imperceptible hole in the upper part, the porous material will absorb, but the outer layer prevents it from coming out,” reports TN.
Garlaschelli added that “if a light scratch is made on the protective glass of the tear duct area, the absorbed water will flow through as if it were tears.”
The Miracle of the “Weeping Virgin”
In the aforementioned note, a local resident described how the eyes of the Virgin Mary statue “turned red in the same way people do when they cry.”
The vast majority of visitors who came to the church to see “the miracle of the Weeping Virgin” claim that the phenomenon is due to the increase in violence in the state of Colima.
The Colima Public Prosecutor’s Office reported a total of 702 murders until October 2023, so locals and visitors considered the event a good time to pray for the safety of locals, TN reports. (JO)
