Unofficially: Germany, France and Italy have agreed on the regulation of artificial intelligence

Germany, France and Italy have reached an agreement on the regulation of artificial intelligence (AI), Reuters has learned. The parties to the agreement want its provisions to apply to both smaller and larger entities.

In parallel, negotiations on this matter are ongoing at the level of the European Commission and the European Council. In June, the European Parliament presented draft regulations. It states the need to prevent the risks posed by artificial intelligence without slowing down the innovative power of this technology. The European Parliament wanted the provisions to apply only to larger entities – mainly from the United States.

The authors of the agreement revealed today indicate that limiting it only to large players would mean that the operation of smaller ones would be risky for customers. The signatories want no sanctions for entities to be introduced at the early stage of the agreement. If violations are repeated, they may continue. There is also talk of establishing an institution that would examine compliance with these regulations.

The matter is supervised by the German ministries of economy and digitalization. Reuter points out that a digital summit will be held on Monday and Tuesday in Jena, Germany, with the participation of representatives of the world of politics, economy and science. The leaders of Germany and Italy are scheduled to meet on Wednesday in Berlin. AI is expected to be one of the topics they will discuss.
