They used artificial intelligence to deceive people. Google sued cybercriminals

Google has filed a lawsuit against three fraudsters who used the company’s image to defraud unaware users. Cybercriminals released a malicious application online, claiming that it was the new Bard chatbot from Google.

It seems that fraudsters will not go unpunished. Three hackers impersonated the company, offering an application that actually had nothing to do with Google. The internet giant didn’t like this very much, so the case will end up in court.

Google filed a lawsuit. He wants to punish fraudsters impersonating the company

, on Monday, Google filed a lawsuit in a California court against three people who used the company’s image to commit fraud. As the company writes in the lawsuit, fraudsters took advantage of the popularity of the Google Bard chatbot, persuading unaware smartphone users to download the application.

The program, which was supposed to be the “latest version” of Google’s AI bot, actually had nothing to do with artificial intelligence from the Californian giant. Victims of the fraud actually downloaded malware onto their smartphones that steals login details on social networking sites. Criminals can later use such data to take over victims’ real accounts and use them to send spam or defraud the victim’s friends.

Google noted in the lawsuit that the fraudsters are in no way related to Google and are using its image illegally. The hackers allegedly used the company’s trademarks of Google services, Google AI and Google Bard. The identity of the perpetrators remains unknown. All we know is that they most likely live in Vietnam. Fraudsters lured victims using Facebook accounts and pages impersonating Google. They were also eager to use promoted posts on the platform.

Google admitted that since April there have been approximately 300 requests to remove content authored by fraudsters. The company hopes that suing them will help avoid further fraud attempts on their part, and will also establish a procedure in the US that will make it easier to punish people involved in online fraud.
