To celebrate his 59th birthday, adventurer Gregory Stewart Owens, originally from the United States, arrived in Cartagena, Colombia.

Gregory, perhaps out of a natural reaction, resisted the robbery. According to Caracol Radio, it was at the doors of a building in the Marbella district, northeast of Cartagena.

On social media, Gregory’s daughter, Takia Owens, mourned her father’s murder and wrote a painful message.

“They took my father from me. It was his birthday and he didn’t deserve what happened to him. He just wanted to enjoy his birthday trip like he always does,” said Takia.

The tragic events took place in Cartagena on October 19, 2023. Caracol Radio reported that in early November, Owens’ remains were transferred to the city of Chattanooga, Tennessee.

In exchange for information to arrest the perpetrators of the crime, a reward of 20 million Colombian pesos ($4,682) was offered.

To find Owens’ perpetrators, an extensive police operation was planned. In El Tiempo, they explained that they had analyzed more than 400 hours of closed-circuit TV camera videos.
