9to5Google: Samsung won’t release update for 2020 flagships

Samsung has refused to release an Android update for smartphones that were released three years ago. This was reported by 9to5Google.

Announcing the Android 14 update for smartphones, the Korean company said that a number of devices will remain without the update. In particular, Samsung will not release updates for the flagship models Galaxy S20 and Note 20, as well as folding devices Galaxy Z Flip and Galaxy Z Fold 2.

According to media journalists, in this way the company actually recognizes popular devices as obsolete. At the same time, at the end of October, Samsung confirmed that gadgets released in 2020 will also receive the current Android update. The material says that the IT giant’s decision is surprising, although the release of its own One UI 6 firmware a month after the release of Android 14 deserves approval.

In 2022, Samsung announced that it was changing its update policy. Thus, the company confirmed that the brand’s flagship smartphones will receive Android updates for four years after release. However, the rule does not apply to phones introduced before 2022.

Earlier it became known that Android 13 became the most popular OS from Google – it received a share of 22.4 percent. The top 3 in popularity also included Android 11 and Android 10.
