The advancement of technology has pushed the future beyond science fiction. The aviation company Volocopterwhose goal is to launch its air taxi in the US market, did the first public test of its product at the Tampa International Airport, Florida, in the presence of local officials such as the mayors of St. Petersburg and Tampa.
According to CiberCuba, these eVTOL air taxis belong to the transportation system known as Urban Air Mobility (UAM) and are powered solely by electric energy.

This aircraft looks very much like a giant drone and promises to transport passengers in a quiet, safe and sustainable way. Its uses go beyond humans as it also has the capacity to transport goods.
The operation of UAM taxis is based on vertical take-off and landing. Their production allows them to create short- and medium-distance routes in urban environments, Miami Diario explains.
We are working hard to prepare for urban air mobility. The team of @volocopter tested their eVTOL today at TPA – the first public test flight at a major US airport and the FIRST of its kind to take place in Florida! An option to relieve the burden and take care of the environment
The idea behind these air taxis entering the market is to reduce congestion at airports, which tend to collapse, especially during peak seasons like Thanksgiving or Christmas. Likewise, it uses technology that is environmentally friendly as it can reduce the carbon footprint.
How many people can you transport per trip? This air taxi can carry one or two people on each trip. In the case of merchandise, it can withstand a maximum load of 220 pounds (99.7 kilos).
How long can they stay in the air before they run out? They have a flight autonomy of up to 15 minutes. You can travel up to 10 miles for each flight.
Aviation industry with a view to transformation
Joe Lopano, CEO of Tampa International Airport, said, “This technology has the potential to transform the aviation and transportation industries,” and expressed his excitement about the partnership with Volocopter.
