Android Authority: Apple called Android smartphones “surveillance devices”

In 2013, Apple accused Google of spying on Android smartphone users. Android Authority reports this.

The US Department of Justice has disclosed Apple’s internal communications during its ongoing antitrust trial against Google. In a presentation sent by company vice president Eddie Cue to Apple CEO Tim Cook, the top manager called Android smartphones “a massive tracking device.” The letter is dated 2013.

Cue also told Tim Cook that Apple has a better approach to privacy than Google. Eddie Cue explained that Apple accesses user data only when necessary, while Google constantly collects information from a user’s account. As an example, the top manager cited Google’s voice assistant, which is linked to the user’s account. Siri Assistant, on the other hand, does not receive consumer data from other Apple services.

Android Authority journalists noted that internal Google correspondence from 2016 states that Apple would like to share user data. The authors of the publication also recalled that Google is the main search engine in Apple devices, for which the American IT giant pays Apple from 18 to 20 billion dollars a year.

At the end of September, Apple executive Eddie Cue explained why Google is the default search engine on the iPhone. According to the top manager, Apple does not see a worthy alternative to Google.
