Izvestia: operators will return free Internet distribution from smartphones

Mobile operators Megafon, VimpelCom (Beeline) and Tele2 will return free Internet distribution to Russians from mobile devices. Izvestia writes about this with reference to the press service of the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS).

On September 18, the FAS sent a demand to mobile operators MTS, Megafon, VimpelCom and Tele2 to cancel fees for distributing Internet traffic from mobile devices. However, the companies did not comply with the service’s instructions after this period.

Megafon has canceled the fee for distributing Internet traffic on all tariff plans from October 23. Tele2 will cancel fees for new subscribers from November 22, and for all existing customers – from December 19, Beeline – until December 1, 2023. MTS refused to comply with the demands.

The draft strategy for the development of the Russian communications industry until 2035, presented by the Ministry of Digital Development in August, provides for an increase in tariffs above the inflation rate so that operators can invest part of their profits in the development of networks and new technologies.
