On Saturday, it’s better to look at the sky. The next such opportunity will be in 2026

On Saturday we will be able to see a different Moon in the sky than usual. Although it will only be a partial eclipse of our natural satellite, it is still worth looking at the sky, because the conditions from Poland promise to be great. This time we are luckier than the Americans.

On Saturday, October 14, Americans observed a beautiful, annular solar eclipse. We in Europe could only admire photos of the Sun’s disk partially covered by the Moon. There were also photos showing the gigantic shadow that our natural satellite cast over almost the entire United States.

Lunar eclipse on Saturday. What can you see?

This Saturday, however, we will be lucky. The next lunar eclipse falls on October 28. It will be a partial eclipse, which means that our natural satellite will not enter the shadow cast by the Earth with its entire shield, but will “slide” along its edge. More precisely, almost the entire Moon will be in penumbra, and only 12 percent will be covered. Silver Globe shield.

As he writes, the Moon in its journey will reach the Earth’s penumbra at exactly 20:01. This is when the penumbral eclipse will begin. Then, at 9:35 p.m., our satellite will reach the shadow cone, thus beginning a partial eclipse. The maximum phase (12.2%) will occur at 10:15 p.m., and a moment later the Moon will begin to emerge from the shadow and then the penumbra of the Earth. The whole phenomenon will end on Sunday, 26 minutes after midnight.

Therefore, we will not see the so-called blood moon, because it will not completely enter the shadow of our planet (it is the passage of light through the Earth’s atmosphere that defines such a rusty color). The Silver Globe will retain its natural color, but its brightness will change to some extent. Near the maximum phase of the eclipse (around 10:15 p.m.), you will also be able to see the darkening of a small part of the lunar disk.

Nevertheless, it is worth looking at the sky, because the next partial lunar eclipse will be visible (or at least part of it) from Poland only in August 2026. The next total eclipse will not occur until June 2029. Saturday’s eclipse will be visible from all of Europe, Africa and almost all of Asia. However, residents of both Americas and Australia will not see it.
