CNBC: Sony will sell 25 million PlayStation 5 consoles in 2023
Sony Corporation announced that it will achieve record sales of its PlayStation 5 console. CNBC TV channel reports this.
The head of Sony’s business operations department, Eric Lempel, said that by the end of 2023, the corporation will sell more than 25 million set-top boxes – this is a record result. Lempel also emphasized that the coming New Year’s season will be the first in which Sony will not experience problems with a shortage of consoles – stores are stocked all over the world.
“We suffered from the same supply chain issues that everyone else has,” a company spokesperson said. According to Lempel, in 2020 Sony could not deliver consoles to everyone due to production problems, but now there is no shortage of gaming devices.
Lempel also commented on the information that Microsoft has finally acquired the Activision Blizzard studio. According to a representative of the corporation, Sony is constantly looking for new partners among game developers: “Over the past decade, we have made more mergers and acquisitions than ever.”
In February, Sony announced that it had reached a record high in sales of next-generation game consoles. During the fourth quarter, the company sold 7.1 million set-top boxes.
