Wuhu, CHINA

Wuhu is a Chinese city located on the southeastern bank of the Yangtze River. Dozens of ships sail through this tributary every day, with cargo on board and away again. It is a reflection of the industrial dynamism of this city, located about two hours by train from Shanghai.

This city is home to the business conglomerate Chery, a company that arrived in Latin America a few years ago and has managed to grab a share of the automotive pie with its products.

DS 4, the latest model of the French luxury car brand, will be available in Ecuador from December in the Cross Trocadero version

With over 3 million inhabitants, Wuhu produces part of the exportable production of its brands holding company. One of those brands is Omoda, which was initially born under the Chery umbrella, but now wants to position itself independently, with its own label and models.

He holding company It introduced this brand to the Mexican market months ago and plans to enter the Ecuadorian market by 2024. It is part of an opening plan that also involves other countries in the region with their own points of sale.

This Sunday, October 15, the business group exhibited in Wuhu, as part of the World Ecological Conference of Omoda Users, the two models it hopes to bring to Ecuador: the C5, in a petrol version, and the E5, the electric version.

The Omoda C5 has a design that tries to inspire art and avant-garde, with a slightly futuristic touch. It is an SUV with a length of 4.4 meters, a width of 1.82 meters and a height of 1.58 meters.

One of the main features of the petrol version is the huge front grille, consisting of a collage of hexagons. This grill has elongated and thin daytime running lights and is equipped with LED lighting at the front and rear.

The cabin

The C5 cabin tends to capture the idea of modernity and technology.

It has a panel with a horizontal digital screen that could approximate the style of high-end cars. The instrument cluster contains information about the speedometer, tachometer, temperature, fuel level… It comes with a driving assistant that responds to the driver’s voice.

Towards the center is the screen for the multimedia and entertainment systems.

The center console offers space for cup holders, room to place phones, wireless charging and an attractive lever design.

This SUV comes with seats upholstered in synthetic leather, with the headrest incorporated as one whole. The seats are shaped like racing seats.

The space in the back is sufficient for the heights of the Ecuadorian market. An average person of 1.70 or 1.80 meters can find sufficient legroom. And although the model has a drop in the back, there is more than a fist’s distance between the head and the ceiling.

The rear trunk is compact, somewhat square, and can be expanded by folding the rear seats. Below this are storage spaces and the emergency conveyor belt.

Field testing of vehicles

The electric version of the Omoda E5 was subjected to test drives in Wuhu.

On a practice field, Omoda tested its C5 models and the electric E5, which it plans to introduce in Ecuador in 2024.

Journalists and specialists from different countries gathered in Fangte Park to participate in these tests as pilots and co-pilots.

The driving test area was divided into a full track experience area and a straight-line acceleration experience area.

There, the SUVs were accelerated to 100 km in a straight line to feel the feeling of thrust under the strong force.

In addition, the drivers experienced road simulations, such as a circuit with S-shaped and 8-shaped bollards.

The electric version of the Omoda E5 is equipped with an advanced drive system with a highly efficient electric motor and a large capacity battery pack.

The vehicle aims for good starting and acceleration performance to provide a smooth driving experience.(JO)
