The process of changing the standard of digital terrestrial television broadcasting in Poland to DVB-T2 was carried out in the first half of 2022. Almost all commercial television channels, i.e. those on the MUX-1, MUX-2 and MUX-4 multiplexes, began to broadcast in the new standard. Thus, people who
However, the government made an exception for the MUX-3 multiplexes, where all the most important Polish Television channels are broadcast – TVP1, TVP2, TVP3, TVP Historia, TVP Sport and TVP Info – and MUX-8 (Metro, Zoom TV, Nowa TV and WP ). Until the end of 2023, you can watch them on old devices,
TVP is moving to the new DVB-T2 standard. Some people will lose access to “News”
The end of the year is fast approaching, which means that in just over two months the above-mentioned TVP channels (more specifically the MUX-3 and MUX-8 multiplexes) will also have to switch to DVB-T2. Thus, people who have not yet decided to replace their TV sets or decoders will lose access to the government broadcaster’s programs, including the flagship news program “Wiadomosci” and the TVP Info channel.
It turns out that the current government does not intend to make it easier for citizens to switch to new receivers compatible with the new standard. As he learned from the Ministry of Digital Affairs, “at the moment there are no plans to launch a subsidy program for a DVB-T2/HEVC compatible decoder/TV set.” Such an action was carried out at the beginning of 2022 (before switching commercial stations to the new standard). Now, people who decide to change their TV sets will have to cover the entire amount from their own pocket or give up watching terrestrial television.
TVP may lose viewers. When will it switch to DVB-T2?
According to the decision of the Office of Electronic Communications, the switching of MUX-3 of Telewizja Polska to the DVB-T2 standard must take place “by the end of this year at the latest”. “The exact date/schedule will depend on the result of working technical arrangements between the broadcaster and the technical operator of the broadcasting infrastructure (Emitel),” the ministry explains in a comment for Wirtualnemedia.pl. The switchover date also depends on UKE, because it involves a change in TVP’s reservation decision – adds the Ministry of Digitization. Telewizja Polska, in turn, only admits that the process will take place “no later than January 1, 2024.”
It is not clear how many households do not have a DVB-T2 compatible TV. As the portal writes, the National Media Institute has not conducted research on this matter for over a year. Back then it was a million houses. President of Telewizja Puls, Dariusz DÄ…bski, that we are currently talking about approximately half a million households. Therefore, it is very likely that not all of them will be able to equip themselves with an appropriate receiver by the end of the year.
