Will Elon Musk block X (Twitter) in Europe? It was about regulations. There is a comment from a billionaire

Elon Musk is said to be increasingly frustrated with the need to comply with EU regulations applicable to social media. The billionaire is reportedly already considering completely withdrawing X (Twitter) from Europe. Unfortunately, these threats seem real.

Elon Musk has never been a particular supporter of compliance with regulations affecting the operations of his businesses, hence numerous disputes with regulators in the US and Europe. Now he has come into sharp disagreement with the European Commission, which wants the billionaire’s social media platform to comply with the provisions of the Digital Services Act (DSA) in force in the EU.

Business Insider: Elon Musk Considers Blocking X in Europe

Based on reports from an anonymous informant related to the case, Elon Musk is reportedly considering completely withdrawing the X platform from Europe so as not to have to comply with the provisions of the DSA. The billionaire is already – as BI writes – frustrated with the need to comply with these regulations. However, the Digital Services Act imposes an obligation on online platforms, including social networks, to moderate (block/delete) entries that contain, among others: hate speech, slogans supporting terrorism or misleading information.

EU legislation is therefore very unfavorable to the billionaire, because – as he declares – he wants social networking site X to enjoy unlimited freedom of speech. Meanwhile, a possible fine for X – if the EU authorities decided to impose it – would amount to billions of dollars. It is up to 6 percent. the company’s annual turnover. Knowing Elon Musk, one could expect that he would even decide to take such a drastic step as withdrawing X from Europe to avoid compliance with the Digital Services Act or paying a possible fine.

There was a lot of publicity about the violations, as the European Commission found that “the platform is being used to spread illegal content and disinformation in the European Union.” This content is said to be related to the Hamas attack on Israel and the war between this country and the organization from the Gaza Strip.

These included: fake news that flooded X after the outbreak of fighting. For example, videos appeared on the website purporting to depict the Hamas invasion, but in fact they were recorded in a different place and time. One of the materials was recorded in September in Egypt, another is a fragment of gameplay from a computer game.

Elon Musk denies. “Totally false”

The X News Daily channel said on In one of the comments to this post on the X platform, Musk himself also referred to the reports. The billionaire denied the BI information. He called the publication’s claim “completely false.”

Another one is completely false [artykuł – red.] Business Insider. This is not a real publication

– wrote Musk on X. However, he did not reveal whether and how he intended to resolve the dispute with the European Commission.
