Netflix The platform allows the shared use of an account only within one household. The platform’s efforts to block this practice worldwide have apparently paid off.
Netflix boasts of its results. They are very good
The company’s total revenue in the last quarter amounted to USD 8.54 billion, which was exactly what analysts expected and over half a billion higher than the quarter before ($7.93 billion). The company’s profits are also higher than expected (3.73 vs. 3.49 dollars per share). Much more interesting, however, is the increase in the number of subscribers, which has been increasing since the account sharing block was imposed.
, the estimated total number of users paying a Netflix subscription is currently 247.15 million people. This is much more than Wall Street analysts expected (243.88 million) and several million more subscribers than Netflix had a quarter earlier. According to Street Account estimates quoted by CNBC, over the last three months Netflix has gained 8.76 million new people paying for one of its packages.
This is the largest quarterly increase in the number of customers since the rapid boom in streaming services at the beginning of the pandemic. In the second quarter of 2020, as people were forced to stay at home, Netflix unexpectedly gained 10.1 million new subscribers. The growth of the viewer base in the last quarter also significantly exceeds Wall Street’s expectations (5.49 million new people) and the results from the previous quarter of this year.
As a reward, Netflix will raise prices. The difference is huge
The announcement of Netflix’s new results coincided with information about price increases for packages offered by the platform. The streaming giant has announced price increases for some packages in three countries – the United States, the United Kingdom and France. In the US, the prices of Basic and Premium plans will increase, i.e. two of the three options offering access to the website without advertising. The first package will now cost $11.99 and the second will cost $22.99 per month. Therefore, the increases will be most noticeable (by USD 3 per month in both cases).
However, the prices of the Standard packages ($15.49 per month) and the cheapest plan with advertising, which is still not available in Poland ($6.99 in the US), will not change. Netflix to shareholders that the raises are due to “providing more value” to customers. For now, it is unclear whether Netflix will follow suit and introduce similar increases in Poland.
