Checkmate of the disbelievers. The 21st century has arrived on PKP trains. It’s about the phone and the internet

Modernity has finally come to PKP. Mobile network amplifiers are activated on the Polish carrier’s trains, which will allow you to talk and use the Internet during the journey. The so-called However, the repeaters will not be available in all trains.

PKP has finally decided to eliminate one of the biggest problems associated with train travel. There is no mobile coverage on many routes, and – due to disruptions in the carriages – using the Internet is very difficult even near cities.

PKP activates signal amplifiers in carriages. The internet will finally work

PKP Intercity announced on Tuesday that the company has just launched the so-called repeaters in 300 of its wagons. These are GSM signal amplifiers that will allow you to “extend the range” of base stations and use calls and the Internet while traveling by train. PKP Intercity wants to launch amplifiers in a total of 554 wagons by the end of this year. The first, small batch of 50 amplifiers was launched on September 1, and another 250 devices were launched on October 10. In both cases, the equipment was installed during modernization repairs or during the delivery of new rolling stock.

The repeaters operate on five bands (800, 900, 1800, 2100 and 2600MHz) and will provide signal amplification in the four largest Polish telecommunications networks (Orange, Play, Plus and T-Mobile). The carrier explains that the process of launching the amplifiers was carried out in cooperation with these four telecoms. However, it was not specified on which routes trains equipped with these devices will operate.

We have heard for years that PKP Intercity trains run in places where the range leaves much to be desired. We are aware that nowadays access to mobile telephony and the Internet is crucial for many people, including our travelers. So we decided to install mobile cellular network amplifiers, which will make rail travel around Poland even more comfortable

– said Tomasz Gontarz, vice-president of the management board of PKP Intercity

PKP explains that the installation and configuration of the amplifiers was a complicated and time-consuming procedure. Mobile repeaters, unlike stationary ones, require a much more complex configuration, and their specification must allow for turning off the amplification when crossing the Polish border – explains the carrier.
