With bombs, alarms, sirens… terrible noises. This is how places in Israel woke up at 6:30 in the morning on Saturday, October 7, 2023, where in one of them was a woman, originally from Mexico, with her two young daughters.
Galia Sopher, mother of two girls, ages 3 and 5, said in a video broadcast by El Heraldo de México that they heard war planes and bomb explosions.

Sopher has lived in Israel for fifteen years, a country that was attacked by Hamas this weekend – by air, sea and land.
“I live on the border with Gaza and this is unprecedented,” he said in a telephone conversation with Foro TV.

He was at camp with his girls.
“We were camping, outside in the kibbutz (farming community),” he said.
Along with Sopher and her girls, several families were at the camp, as part of an annual tradition they have been celebrating for years.
When I heard the bombs, “I had to sit on top of my daughters for fear that something would fall on us,” he recalls.
I had never felt fear of that magnitude, of that magnitude.

She said her husband went to sleep at home and with the help of some men, who knew that many families were near the kibbutz, they were able to leave the camp and return to their homes, she said in a video published by El Heraldo de México..

War in Israel, run to the shelter
“When I got home, I ran inside with my two daughters in my arms. Within seconds, we all entered the shelter together and were locked in that place for hours,” Sopher said.
All houses in the kibbutz, he explained, have a reinforced concrete room and that is the shelter.
They stayed in their private accommodation from shortly before 7 a.m. until 3 a.m. in the afternoon.
We only heard bombs, machine guns and the passing of tanks outside. We felt like we were in a horror movie.
Galia Sofer
He described being left without electricity, without signal and worst of all, without knowing what was happening outside the shelter.
At that place they had to remain silent. There was no ventilation, nor food. They had a little water. (…) “My daughters are going crazy here,” said Galia Sopher.

Silently “there are suspicions of infiltrated terrorists”
He said everyone should remain silent as much as possible.
More worrying was the response: “There are suspicions that terrorists have infiltrated, Well, they have already been discovered in other nearby kibbutzim. Here we don’t know whether yes or no.”
Sopher told the Mexican television channel: “I have been here for 15 years and I still don’t understand what happened. This is something unprecedented. “My husband has always lived here and we have never felt or experienced anything like this.”
In the video broadcast of El Heraldo de México, he said that after many hours the authorities informed them that they could leave, always under their own responsibility.
He explained that families and friends who were able to leave early noted that doing so forced the children to leave with their heads down “because there were a lot of bodies in the streets, burned out cars and horrible things.”
Faced with such a scenario, he said he was “lucky nothing happened to us.”
He told Foro TV, remembering what his stay in Israel was like fifteen years ago: “I live in a kibbutz and I invite you to come, it is always a fantastic place, when we are not at war.” (JO)
