Several tarps – blankets – appeared on bridges and billboards in Sinaloa, Mexico, with a message about fentanyl signed by Los Chapitos.
“Due to the incessant misinformation from some media outlets and the government’s clear negligence in not investigating and prosecuting the true culprits of this epidemic, Sinaloa is banning the sale, production, transportation or any type of business involving the substance known as fentanyl including the sale of chemicals for its production.”
The closing read: “We have never been related to that company and never will be. Adhere to the consequences. Att. Chapitos.” That was what was written on the covers, as Infobae published.

This is the four-letter cartel that threatens to dethrone Los Chapitos from the top spot in fentanyl trafficking to the United States
In doubt as to whether or not it was a real message from the children of Joaquín El Chapo Guzmán, journalist Azucena Uresti reported that lawyer Alberto Díaz confirmed its origin.
Díaz is the defender of Ovidio Guzmán and told Uresti that the blankets that appeared in various municipalities of Sinaloa were “signed by ‘Los Chapitos’.”
– Is it a hint, a kind of white flag, towards the United States? Uresti asked.
– Rather, it is a position that they have expressed publicly, they had previously said that they were not doing that activity. That is their position regarding the information that the United States has disseminated, Díaz replied.

First message from the children of “El Chapo” Guzmán
In May 2023, the children of the former Sinaloa Cartel leader sent a letter to the DEA.
In the letter they said: “We are not the head of the Sinaloa Cartel and we have never worked with fentanyl.”
“We have never worked with fentanyl,” stated ‘Los Chapitos’ (…) “The children of Joaquín Guzmán Loera, now referred to in a publicity effort as Los Chapitos, have never produced, manufactured or marketed fentanyl or any of its derivatives “, they noted in a letter that was confirmed, also to Uresti, by José Refugio Rodríguez, “El Chapo’s” lawyer.
“We are not the head of the Sinaloa Cartel and we have never worked with fentanyl”: the alleged letter El Chapo Guzmán’s children sent to the DEA
That message was made public days after DEA Director Anne Milgram accused the Sinaloa Cartel and Los Chapitos of being primarily responsible for the fentanyl “flooding” the United States.
On April 14, the U.S. Department of Justice charged the children of Joaquín El Chapo Guzmán Loera with fentanyl trafficking.
These are the charges announced by the United States against four sons of El Chapo Guzmán for trafficking in fentanyl
They replicated the message about fentanyl in Sonora
Journalist Uresti pointed out that the blankets also appeared in Sonora, but signed by ‘Los Pelones’.
“We join the ban on transfer, production and sale and everything related to fentanyl… those who do not comply with the order must face the consequences,” they wrote on the canvas.
“Los Pelones,” the communicator explained, is a cell of the Sinaloa cartel active in Sonoyta and Caborca.
