Last Friday, numerous relatives and friends said their final farewells in the city of Caravaca de la Cruz Colombians Leidy Paola Correa and Kevin Alejandro Gómez all the Ecuadorians Rosa María Rosero and Jorge Enrique Batiojafour of the Thirteen people died in the tragic fire in a recreational area in the Spanish city of Murcia.

The coffins with their remains were received in total silence on the square where the church of that municipality is located, interrupted only by the ringing of the bells.

Then, during the funeral, with Latin music in the background and covered with the flags of Colombia and Ecuador, their countries of origin, the coffins were transported to the entrance of the temple, where they were paid tribute.

Little orphans

Jorge Enrique Batioja, 38, and Rosa María Rosero, 32, came from Ecuador, a couple who leave behind three minor children, ages 16, 9 and 4.

The night of the fatal fire, they traveled to Murcia, to have fun at the Fonda Milagros nightclub, where they shared a car with the other two deceased, Kevin Alejandro Gómez, 32, and his girlfriend, Leidy Paola Correa, 28, both from Colombian nationality.

Leidy’s was one of the first stories to shock public opinion, before hardly any details were known about the fire and its victims, as the young woman sent an audio message to her mother, who was still alive in the living room.

“Mommy, I love her. “I’m dying,” says the message his father receivesJairo, lectured the media and captured the panic experienced in the room.

The remains of Jorge Enrique and Rosa María were buried in the municipal cemetery of Caravaca, while those of Leidy Paola were cremated. Kevin Alejandro is repatriated to his native Colombia.

The families thus close a painful chapter that began with the uncertainty of whether or not their loved ones were among those killed in the fire, which only became official after identifications through DNA samples were completed and communicated to the families.

Of the thirteen victims, seven have requested repatriation, while the rest, in addition to Caravaca, will rest in cemeteries in Murcia and Molina de Segura.

On October 18, a funeral mass will be celebrated in honor of the deceased at the Cathedral of Murcia, which will be recited by the bishop of the diocese, José Manuel Lorca Planes, and attended by the regional president, Fernando López Miras. (JO)
