The Information: an invisible QR code will be printed on all Apple smartphones starting in 2020
Apple labels all smartphones with hidden QR codes. This was reported by The Information.
According to insiders, the QR code is engraved on the device’s display – and it is so small that it cannot be seen without special equipment. The codes help Apple control the production of iPhone front panels and save significant costs.
The publication’s sources found information that Apple began printing hidden characters in this way on all of its smartphones starting in 2020. Labeling is carried out at Lens Technology and Biel Crystal, which produce the front panels. According to experts, the invisible QR code helps Apple find out how many iPhone screens were rejected during production.
Thus, before the introduction of marking, 3 out of 10 panels turned out to be defective. After introducing the practice of applying QR codes, manufacturers began to reject only 1 out of 10 front panels. Insiders said that the QR code was previously located next to the front camera of the iPhone, but then it was moved to the lower frame of the display.
Earlier it became known that Apple began marking the packaging of the iPhone 15 with symbols invisible to the human eye. Special QR codes confirm the authenticity of smartphones.
